Emerald Park was the scene of a smattering of goals from newly promoted Norwich as the Canaries beat Gorleston FC 7-0
It’s always a memorable occasion when your local team plays a Premier League side. It was even better when that side is from your very own county. Gorleston’s game against Norwich was on everyone’s calendar as the perfect opportunity to see two Norfolk teams battle it out before new league campaigns.
It was certainly obvious to see that Norwich are at full speed when it comes to pre season preparation. Paul Lambert’s side were 5-0 before half time with two goals from striker Grant Holt, the second from a penalty, as well as goals from Zak Whitbread, Korey Smith and Simeon Jackson.
The second half was another showpiece by the Canaries as Bradley Johnson and Aaron Wilbraham added another two goals to make it 7 for the night.
Paul Lambert told the EDP, “It’s a different standard,” said Lambert, “It’s for us to get fit and a touch of the ball and get the lads playing a little bit, and now we go to Germany and we will work hard over there. It’s about trying to get fit for that first game.
Lambert also praised Gorleston’s last campaign,
“Listen, any game of football you try and play you try to win, that’s first and foremost. Gorleston have a terrific set-up here and did terrifically well last season to get out of their league”
Greens Boss Richard Daniels took the heavy defeat well, “It’s been a cracking day for the club. The weather hasn’t helped – I think a few more could have come if the weather wasn’t as bad as it was – but it has been a massive work out for our boys, if chasing shadows as I said before.”
Both teams are looking forward to seasons in new leagues, and Love Gorleston will keep you up to date when the new league kicks off.
